Not only does an ultrasound confirm the viability of the pregnancy, but it also confirms the location. If it is located outside of the pregnancy, this is an ectopic pregnancy and requires immediate medical attention.
An ultrasound will also confirm the gestational age of the pregnancy (how far along you are), which will help inform you of your timeline as you consider adoption.
